was my first Spirit. I was in no way prepared for the experience I had.
I had seen a flier for the retreat at a meeting and got super excited. I
had attended Camp Olympia as a child some 40 years ago and had fond
memories. It was a step back in time as I entered the property, pine
trees in full glory. As the weekend progressed, I found myself
reminiscing camp experiences as I cultivated new experiences. I recall
as a youngster the last night of camp we would congregate around a huge
bonfire by the lake. It was a bittersweet time of sharing memories and
making plans for camp the following summer. I never could have predicted
that through my life journey, God would have led me back to Camp Olympia
40 years later to get to experience another bonfire with my friends
sharing our experience, strength, and hope. I felt as if my life had
come full circle. I was right where I was supposed to be." Shelley V.
April 2012 Spirit
six months, at around this time of the night before leaving, I pause to
wonder how short my life would have been had I not gone to that first
Spirit in '95. My life was over, except for deciding how to get out of
it. (If I had known in advance that I would get my will to live back at
that first retreat, I probably would not have gone.) So, I arrive there
with gratitude, which grows with every familiar face I see, and with
every new face I see lighting up with that Spirit." - Tim L. before
